Artist Details:Born in either 1878 or 1883? Ludwik Kazimiers Wladyslaw Marcus, the Polish artist known as Louis Marcoussis, studied at the Krakow Academy of Fine Arts before moving to Paris in 1903 to study under Jules Lefebure at the Academy Julian. He was one of the artists along with Picasso, Braque and Juan Gris who brought cubism to the art scene of Paris in the early years of the 20th. century. As well as being a painter in the fine arts he practised print making and was known to have taught Joan Miro how to etch. He served in WW1 in the French Foreign Legion and became a French citizen after the war.
