Artist Details:Henry Moore was born in Castleford, Yorkshire, the son of a miner. Although known as an internationally famous sculptor, he was also a printmaker with 700 odd prints credited to him of which, less than 40 were before 1955. He studied at Leeds School of Art from 1919 and at the Royal College of Art 1921-4 before going to France and Italy on a travelling scholarship in 1925 returning to the RA. until 1932 then teaching at the Chelsea School of Art until 1939. His early prints, mainly lithographs, were experimental trials working with the printers Cowells of Ipswich and are regarded as some of his best work in that medium.
